A One Day Workshop with Gabor Maté: Exploring the mind-body-emotional connection and the impact of stress on the immune system

Gabor Maté’s workshop in Toronto last week attracted so much interest that the location had to be changed: Within days of posting the event, five hundred participants had signed up. The organisers had to scramble and find a new location for the event and settled on a movie theatre. I was a bit sceptical when I settled myself in for the talk: there were no visual aids, just a gaunt man dressed in black standing at the front of the theatre with a few newspaper clippings in his hands. And then, the day began and I lost track of everyone else in the room. Dr Maté is a gifted and riveting speaker.

Instead of trying to explain his message in my own words, here is an excerpt from his website which describes the message in the book and in his workshop:

“Can a person literally die of loneliness? Is there a connection between the ability to express emotions and Alzheimer’s disease? Is there such a thing as a “cancer personality”?     I must have had "navigation fatigue". I found it when I did more digging on the hincks website. It's called "Navigating Stress: Caring for Oneself While Serving Others"

    Dear Janet, thank you for your comment. Regarding the sad/hurt feelings, do you think there are some old injuries that are resurfacing for you? Sometimes this workshop can push on some difficult buttons. This is something that is good to explore with a good counsellor, to try and see what is underlying those sad feelings. I would also suggest sitting with them for a little while, and see what comes up for you. Our body has wonderful ways to tell us things but sometimes we are not quite able to hear it.

    Francoise, yesterday's workshop was terrific. Thank you so much. I can tell I'm still processing. By the way, I've also been feeling a little sad (like a hurt feeling) and given the great time I had, I'm surprised and confused by this feeling.

    Also, I see that Gabor Mate will be in Toronto on June 28th. I clicked on the link but was not successful in finding it. Any advice?
