Ontario Ombudsman releases report on OSI in the Provincial Police Force

Ontario Ombudsman André Marin recently released a damning report on how the Ontario Provincial Police and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services has handled Operational Stress Injury among its staff.

Ontario Ombudsman André Marin said today that 23 OPP officers have committed suicide since 1989, a total that exceeds the number of officers killed on duty over the same time period. (CBC News report Oct 24, 2012.)

New free resource for Child Welfare Workers

The University of Minnesota’s School of Social Work recently published a document called CW360 “Secondary Trauma and the Child Welfare Workforce.” It offers reflections from a number of child welfare specialists on secondary trauma from various perspectives: supervisors, foster parents, judges, rural workers, etc. It also has a comprehensive resource list and an “agency discussion guide” that provides key questions and discussion points for staff and managers. Voici une liste de ressources en français sur l’usure de compassion et le traumatisme vicariant. J’offre ici la pdf de l’excellent article de Jan Richardson “Guide sur le Traumatisme Vicariant” dans son intégralité car il est très difficile à obtenir en ligne (et n’est plus disponible par le biais du centre national d’information de violence dans la famille, pour une raison que j’ignore, car c’est un document exceptionnel). J’inclus également le dossier 2007 de la CSST sur le traumatisme vicariant.
