Repeated and chronic exposure to large volumes of difficult stories can erode our sense of empathy for others.
We can become hardened and desensitized to the suffering of others– or conversely, we can become swallowed up by their pain. Any of us can experience these “costs of caring” when we are overloaded, working with traumatic content, or supporting people who are chronically in crisis.
Since its launch in 2018, the Compassion Fatigue 101 online course has helped thousands of helping professionals understand and address the costs of doing difficult work.
This course was updated and revised in 2021 to reflect advancements in the field of compassion fatigue research.

I really enjoyed the training.
This was such a wonderfully organized and well put together training. I cannot wait to go to the actual training in SSM!
This was a great overview for self-care when dealing with compassion fatigue, with lots of resources listed for further access and reading.
Extremely important information for anyone in caring professions. I would have liked it to be more interactive.
Easy to understand and she use relatable scenarios and other life experiences
Great information! And presenter!
I liked the personal stories.
It was informative and relevant.
Loved all of the information
Nicely broken down into mangeable chunks. Great explanations provided on key concepts.
I took this course in preparation for school district re-opening after COVID 19. It is an excellent presitation and preparation guideline for multiple and diverse individual and group challenges, especially now in the face of police concerns with BLM ni the backdrop of COVID.
Excellent course with practical and salient information that can be taken back and applied immediately. The pace was self guided that allowed for note taking, processing and self reflection. Looking forward to the next opportunity.
Thank you for developing this course. It was a great reminder for caring for ourselves in our daily lives of helping others. There are some points made throughout the course that I know will stick with me for a long time to come.
Compassion Fatigue 101 is just as important as knowing CPR. I cannot afford the consequences of not having this information.
I enjoyed the course. Its pace and delivery was excellent allowing for time for reflection as well as sharing well researched best practices. I’m looking forward to learning more from the TEND Academy. John.
I really enjoyed this course! The presenter is very engaging and the information is spot on. I was able to consider many aspects of the issue of compassion fatigue and the exercises helped me to reflect on how this issue has an effect on both work and family life. Thank you! Marlo
I really enjoyed how she would use very relatable situations when talking about different topics.
I attended the HALIFAX Tend Conference this year. learned a lot regarding Compassion care, Compassion fatigue, WTF (LOL) and most importantly, myself. This course ia a logical next step and I am looking forward to complete the online T4T in February 2019. Françoise…”tu ROCK”
I enjoyed this coarse very much, I thought the topic of the negative Nellie if you will was great, hit the nail on the head. The workplace may be 95% void of negativity, but add in the 5% left and all they do is complain it has a negative impact on others to be sure. This coarse covered a lot of the material, and broke it down into smaller more understandable categories, very well done! Thx
